Ireland by train — the realistic low-carbon route map
What the rail network actually covers, what you have to fill in with bus or hire car, and where it's cleaner per traveller than driving alone.

The numbers we use
Across IMPT, we use a single, verifiable carbon line. Per booking: 1 tonne of UN-verified CO₂ retired on-chain on Ethereum. That's roughly 28× the per-night footprint of a hotel stay. The credit is funded from IMPT's commission, not added to the guest's bill. If you see a different number on any IMPT surface, the version on this page is the one to trust.
What 'UN-verified' means
The credits IMPT retires are issued by projects registered under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). They are independently verified before issuance and tracked under a serialised registry. This is what allows the on-chain retirement to be tied to a specific real-world project rather than a marketing claim.
Why on-chain matters
The chronic problem with off-chain offsets is double-counting — the same credit being sold or counted more than once. On-chain retirement on Ethereum gives every booking a public, non-tamperable receipt. Anyone can verify the retirement against the booking ID. That's the entire technical case for using a blockchain for this — not the marketing case, just the auditing one.
What we will not claim
- We will not claim individual hotels are 'eco-certified'. They are standard hotels — what makes the booking carbon-neutral is the offset, not a property certification.
- We will not pretend the offset cancels every emission of your trip. It covers a tonne of CO₂ — far more than the per-night hotel footprint, but not a long-haul flight.
- We will not invent loyalty caps, monthly fees, or cashback rates that don't exist on the live product.
The practical implication for travellers
If you book a hotel through IMPT, your booking is carbon-neutral on the room-stay portion of your trip's footprint. You don't pay extra. The offset is automatic. The only choice you make is to book through IMPT instead of one of the bigger travel sites that don't do this. Same price, same room, same cancellation terms.
Where to start
Browse IMPT's hotel directory at impthotels.com for Ireland, or impt.io/green-hotels/ for global. To search and book, use app.impt.io. The carbon offset happens automatically — you do nothing extra.
